POSITION SUMMARY The Head Baseball Coach/Athletic Fields Manager will oversee the intercollegiate baseball program at Franciscan University, as well as be responsible for the upkeep and preparation of all athletic fields for practice and competition. The primary responsibilities of this position involve instructing student-athletes in the fundamentals and tactics of the sport of baseball and preparing them for competition. The head coach is responsible for the spiritual growth of the student athletes, and for monitoring academic progress.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 1.Plan and execute practices with appropriate technical and tactical instruction. 2.Recruit representative student-athletes for participation in baseball at the University. Coordinate the recruitment of student-athletes with Admissions and Financial Aid offices. 3.Learn and comply with all relevant NCAA and conference rules and regulations. 4.Game day preparation and coaching. 5.Promote the spiritual and academic development of each student athlete within a team culture where the Catholic faith and Christian moral principles are integrated into the daily activities of the program. 6.Coordinate with other athletic staff and other university departments on logistical issues such as contest scheduling, team travel, field preparation, and game day preparation. 7.Maintain and prepare eight outdoor athletic facilities for practices and contests.

Work Experience • Three to five years of head coaching at the club, high school or collegiate levels (college preferred). • Field maintenance experience at an athletic facility.
Competencies • Developing Others: Provide fundamentals for technical and tactical expertise in the sport of baseball. • Creativity: Use a variety of experiences and techniques to help enhance performance. • Drive for Results: To reach recruiting objectives and achieve game day excellence. • Action Oriented: Willingness to meet deadlines and to prepare surfaces for play. • Customer Service: Represent the Athletic Department with recruits and peers.
Technical Skills • Knowledge of statistical software and video editing software. • Ability to operate landscaping machinery. • Will be required to drive a 12-passenger van to some away contests.
Workplace Factors • Must have the ability to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) from ground to shoulder height without assistance. • Must be able to endure long periods of time coaching in both practice and game settings which will involve travel. • Variable Hours: Primarily evening and weekend hours during the academic year with travel for recruitment of student athletes.
