Women’s Basketball Academic and Operations Coach Athletics
Canisius College is a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), seeks a full-time Basketball Academic and Operations Coach. This position reports to the head coach and assistant coaches for Women’s Basketball. The Academic and Operations Coach will oversee the daily operation of a successful Division I Women’s Basketball program with constant commitment to compliance with all institutional, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. This position will work nights, weekends, holidays, and will travel with the team.
Responsibilities: •Assist in the education and instruction of student- athletes in the relevant skills, techniques and tactics to perform the sport of women’s basketball. This should include, but not be limited to teaching sportsmanship, leadership, and life skills to educate the whole student-athlete. •Assist with education and instruction of in-season and out-of-season conditioning program to promote proper technique and execution. •Assist with academic counseling and career planning for the student-athletes of the women’s basketball program. Serve as the key point of contact for the head basketball coach on all academic related matters for women’s basketball student-athletes. •Maintain compliance with all NCAA, Conference and institutional rules and policies relative to the recruitment and eligibility of all freshmen, transfer and continuing student-athletes. •Develop and implement and operational budget plan for the women’s basketball program and ensure the program operates within the approved financial and procedural parameters when purchasing goods, arranging meals and scheduling hotel travel for the women’s basketball program. •Plan and execute the women’s basketball summer youth educational camp program for up to 200 campers and oversee the student-athletes mentoring initiative with the campers. •Plan and execute the women’s basketball summer youth team camp and ensure the required NCAA educational components are included in the program curriculum. •Create and distribute an itinerary and rooming list for all away contest •Assist in all program efforts for fundraising and campus/community involvement. •Coordinate all video responsibilities for the women’s basketball program, including but not limited to the team and individual instructional videos, preparation of instructional scouting video clips for team instruction, film exchange and any video and statistical analysis necessary to assist in the instruction of the women’s basketball team. •Work with prospective student-athletes to insure their registration with the Clearinghouse. Work with Director of Compliance. •Work with Head Coach and Equipment Room Manager on all equipment related issues. •Implement the program’s recruiting plan and strategies. •Assist in all areas with video game breakdown and usage. •Respond, in a timely fashion, to all requested documentation (i.e. recruiting logs, travel itineraries, etc.) and other reasonable requests for information from administrative staff within the Department of Athletics. •Participate in Department-wide staff, compliance education and other meetings as requested by the Director of Athletics. •Strive to build and maintain positive relationships with all internal and external constituencies. •Assist with, when requested, the development initiatives of the College and the Department of Athletics. •Professional behavior is expected at all times, but especially when dealing with student-athletes, the media, alumni booster groups and other external constituents. •Engage in activities that will have a positive impact and raise the level of awareness of the women’s basketball program. •Follow established protocol for the admission of all domestic and international student-athletes. •Ensure the women’s basketball program is administered with constant commitment to compliance with all institutional, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. •Create an environment in which all student-athletes are treated both fairly and with mutual respect.

Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree is required. • Experience with athletic sports team operations or strong knowledge of intercollegiate athletics required. • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations is desirable. • Professional demeanor and ability to work effectively with various constituencies including: prospective students, current students, their families, general public, faculty, administrators and alumni. • Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal, leadership, organization and communication skills. • Must possess strong problem solving skills with the ability to handle multiple takes with changing priorities. • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and the ability to learn additional programs. • Strong attention to detail and follow through. • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively within a team. • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a positive driving record per the college’s insurance provider (or upon moving to NYS obtain a NYS driver’s license within NYS DMV residency guidelines after hire).

2011 National Survey of Student Engagement
Canisius earned high marks from its student body in the 2011 National Survey of Student Engagement. The student-faculty ratio is 11:1, which allows students to work closely with their instructors, often publishing or presenting scholarly articles based on joint research. There are more than 200 full-time faculty at Canisius, 95 percent of whom hold a PhD or other terminal degree.
Campus Ministry is responsible for the religious life of the campus. Activities are open to students and staff of all faiths and include spiritual retreats, service opportunities and the promotion of social justice.
