Summary of Position:
Under general supervision, assists in coaching duties for Biola University Cross Country and Track and Field Teams. Assists the head coach with all aspects of the program that may include recruitment, training, strength training for athletic competition, fundraising, and administration. The assistant coach will comply with all NCAA Division II legislative requirements, as well as applicable PacWest Conference rules and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Understand and agree to abide by the mission of Biola University and the Biola Athletics Department. 2.Under the supervision of the Head Coach, oversee, organize, prepare, and conduct individual and team practices, training, and competition using sound principles and judgment consistent with the philosophy of the Head Coach and Biola Athletics. 3.Possess the ability to administer workouts and oversee workout groups during practice sessions. 4.Assist and lead with supervising of strength and conditioning workouts; provide technical support and training to athletes, as appropriate to the sport. 5.Participate in various fundraising, marketing, and promotion activities if assigned by the Head Coach. 6.Assist in managing a program budget and balancing credit card statements throughout the year. 7.Assist in coaching at meets throughout the season as assigned by the Head Coach. 8.Oversee and coordinate recruiting and following up with qualified student-athletes by phone, e-mail, or through on and off campus visits. Within the framework of Biola and NCAA Division II policies, recruit prospective student-athletes who are of the level necessary to be successful academically and athletically. 9.Ability to help effectively arrange and manage home contests according to conference and NCAA requirements. 10.Organize and engage in community service events with the team. 11.Help in the spiritual growth of student-athletes; ensure the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes. 12.Have a valid California Class C license and be physically able to drive cars and vans as needed and assigned by the Head Coach. 13.Proficient use of Biola’s ARMS compliance software (ARMS) including the timely, accurate, and complete submission of all necessary forms. 14.Annually pass the NCAA Coach’s Certification Exam. 15.Maintain current certification in First Aid, CPR and AED. 16.Adhere to all institutional, PacWest, and NCAA Division II by-laws and regulations. 17.Effectively manage time in a demanding work environment.

Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. 9. Holds personal theological beliefs that are in agreement with the Biola Doctrinal Statement. Maintains a lifestyle in consonance with sound Christian principles and those promulgated by the Institution.

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university 3-4 years coaching at high school level but preferably collegiate level OR experience competing at collegiate level; Experience coaching sprints/hurdles/relays, multis, or jumps.
Master’s degree and USATF, USTFCCCA, or IAAF certification in an event area. 3-4 years coaching sprints/hurdles/relays at the collegiate level.
Must be a professing Christian, committed to following a Christian lifestyle, and implementing faith into their coaching style.
