Responsible for sales activities that promote the Lake Erie Shores & Islands region to sports event rights holders, coaches and families in a manner that maximizes economic impact and increases hotel occupancy.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develop relationships with sports venue owners and operators. Work closely with these partners to obtain their support for and participation in hosting various events.
Work closely with rights holders to ensure a successful event and to help satisfy all needs. Coordinate and document pre-event communication, mailings, registration/onsite assistance, work orders, including deliver/set-up to property and coordinate staffing needs.
Assist in coordination of event planning for rights holders including, but not limited to, facility organization, rental equipment, event set-up, hospitality coordination, attraction discounts, and serving on the local organizing committee.
Collaborate with local sports tourism officials on potential infrastructure development.
Maintain knowledge of Lake Erie Shores & Islands properties and services through on-site visits and ongoing communication.
Work closely with group partners including area hotels, restaurants, and attractions to exchange ideas and share leads, act as a liaison between these entities and the rights holders.
Assist in verifying and updating group information in such documents as the Travel Guide and other reference material. Maintain leisure sports event and tournament calendars.
Represent Lake Erie Shores & Islands at trade shows focusing on Sports Tourism. Attend sales missions, industry meetings, and functions.
Follow up on leads received from trade shows and other sources by sending/delivering requested information and assisting with special requests. Convert leads into booked business; prepare proposals including quoted costs at facilities and execute and accompany client site inspections.
Assist in planning sales programs that will showcase the area as a convenient and economical group location including group oriented familiarization tours and sales blitzes that target the Sports market.
Maintain awareness of competing cities and the industry (i.e. through trade journals, educational programs and travel).
Keep accurate and up to date files and database records on all events that have or may utilize area facilities.
Maintain an awareness of sales goals and report monthly sales activities.
Assist with tourism partner meetings to educate partners on issues, topics, and new trends relating to the sports industry.
Provide recommendations on sports advertising. Assist in the development of the sports marketing collateral/profile sheets, public relations programs and group website.
Maintain an awareness of developments in the Shores & Islands region’s tourism industry and the hospitality industry in general. Demonstrate strong knowledge of the region’s travel & tourism offerings and basic knowledge of Ohio as a travel and tourism destination.
