The director is responsible for the strategic direction and coordination of a comprehensive multi-disciplinary sport science/performance program within the Athletic Department at UNL. Responsibilities include the direct oversight, policy development, and budget and personnel management of the Athletic Department’s Nebraska Athletics Performance Laboratory (NAPL). The director will oversee and lead the Athletic Department’s athletics performance research and testing with the primary focus on student-athlete performance initiatives and testing. The director also collaborates with department staff, particularly Strength and Conditioning, Athletic Medicine, Sports Psychology, Sports Analytics and Sports Nutrition, to improve student-athlete athletic performance and wellness; and works with sports programs and coaches to develop projects that will enhance individual and team athletic performance.
Required Qualifications • Master’s Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Neuroscience, or related field. • Three years’ experience working at a NCAA institution and/or professional sports team on athletic performance initiatives and in a supervisory role. • Understanding of program development and expansion in a sports performance center with a background that supports broad sports performance areas (e.g. Nutrition, Strength and Conditioning, Neuroscience, Biomechanics, Mental Skills training). • Experience collaborating with athletic department or professional sports team staff in performance areas (e.g. Strength and conditioning, sports psychology, athletic medicine, sports nutrition) on athletic performance initiatives. • Experience supervising staff conducting athletic performance testing or research. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications • A PhD or doctoral level training in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Neuroscience, or related field. • At least three years’ experience working with student-athletes at a NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) institution. • Experience presenting at national or international level and research publications that are peer reviewed. • Connections in the sport performance area. • Experience in the development and growth of programs • Experience with research design, data collection, data analysis and reporting and managing databases. • National or International reputation in the field.
