The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). We are currently seeking a full-time Assistant Coach – Pitching Coach for our Softball program.
Description of Position: The Assistant Coach, Softball is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in organizing and managing all phases of a Division I Softball program, including recruiting, team travel, strength & conditioning, student-athlete academic monitoring, public speaking, competition scheduling, budget management, and community/donor relations.
Coaches team at practices and competitive events.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to developing the pitchers, setting up and overseeing individual pitcher/catcher workouts
Oversee academic and personal well-being of student-athletes.
Assist in building a nationally competitive Division I program through successful recruiting and retention of high-level student-athletes.
Collaborates with Head Coach, Athletic Trainers, and Strength & Conditioning Coach to design both academic year (in season and out-of-season) and summer conditioning programs.
Assist with budgeting, reconciling expenses, and proposing purchases for sports program.
Serve as key liaison to the broader Cal Softball community, engaging in alumni, fund raising, and other key stakeholder activities.
Organizes community service events for team.
Other administrative duties as assigned.
Coaching or playing experience at Division 1 level.
Minimum of 3 years coaching experience at the collegiate level.
Must have highly advanced and effective inter-personal, motivational, and team leadership skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be a confident public speaker and able to communicate well with athletes, parents, coaches, and other staff members.
Ability to work well with others, in a diverse environment.
Must be able to demonstrate creativity, sound judgment and decision-making, be an effective problem solver, and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Must be recognized expert in team sport and coaching principles for student-athletes.
Must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the Berkeley campus of the University of California adheres, and, at all times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.
