The Assistant AD for Business Operations is responsible for oversight of all financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems for the University of Miami Department of Athletics. She/he will be responsible for all accounting functions, financial reporting, departmental budgeting, analysis of trends and policy and procedure development.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Oversight of the budgeting process, including:
Leadership: Analyzes current budget trends and interprets financial data to make resource allocation recommendations to cost center managers, head coaches and the executive/senior staff Constantly drives the budget process by serving as a highly visible and vocal change driver in a rapidly evolving environment
Insure monthly entries, including all revenue and expenses, are correctly recorded according to GAAP standards
Oversees and positions for success select staff members with an emphasis on goal setting, delegating assignments, monitoring performance and training
Serves on the Senior Staff
Budget Process Development: Works with all cost center managers, head coaches and executive/senior staff in developing an annual zero-based budget
Develops and maintains a five-year operating budget plan
Develops and maintains a five-year capital plan Provides budget training for executive/senior staff, cost center managers and head coaches
Develops a yearly timeline and procedural manual outlining all budgeting operations
Aligns annual budget process with departmental strategic plan
Follows all University budget office procedures and the inputting of all future year budget information into the Tidemark system
Financial Reporting Develops, prepares and refines monthly, quarterly and yearly financial reports for the executive/senior staff, cost center managers, head coaches and University budget office (Tidemark reporting) of current fiscal year financial position and projected current fiscal year finishing position
Integrates Workday financial reporting capabilities into the budget process and proposes to campus new Workday financial reporting initiatives. Maintains appropriate complimentary reporting systems to fill in Workday reporting gaps
Provides financial data to the Atlantic Coast Conference and NCAA as required; oversees the EADA/NCAA Financial reporting process, including Workday reporting integration, and external auditor review of the agreed-upon procedures.
• Reviews operations to assure that internal controls are adequate to safeguard assets.
• Responsible for maintaining compliance with NCAA, Atlantic Coast Conference, institutional and departmental policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned by the Deputy Athletic Director/CFO and Sr. Associate AD for Business Operations.
Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting of finance required; Master’s degree preferred.
At least 5+ years in business operations/budget development.
Certified Public Accountant preferred.
Knowledge of Workday and Tidemark financial systems preferred.
Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills.
Commitment to a responsibility to adhere to all policies, rules and regulations of the University of Miami, the Atlantic Coast Conference and the NCAA is required.
