The Operations Supervisor’s primary responsibility is for the stewardship of multiple buildings including the supervision and coordination of skilled and unskilled workers, plus contractors, in maintenance, repair and janitorial activities. Coordination also includes directing and assisting the Director of Facilities Operations with scheduling staff in the support needed for Athletic events and third-party activities occurring within the University of Oregon Athletic Departments facilities. The Operations Supervisor has broad responsibilities including budget authority, staff supervision and independent decision making capability related to the care and upkeep of Athletic facilities.
The Operations Supervisor is responsible for the maintenance, repair and janitorial activities of the Casanova Center, Moshofsky Center, PK Park, Pape Field, Hayward Field, McArthur Court Basement, Jane Sanders Stadium and Autzen Stadium, while supporting all other Athletic Department facilities, complexes and grounds. The Operations Supervisor reports directly to the Director of Facilities and provides leadership and direction to the nine classified staff members who report directly to this position, while collaborating with others to create a seamless, well informed facilities staff. This position is responsible for being a self-starter, strategic planner and partner in the management/coordination of facility related issues.
Responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, including adherence to all department policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, Pac-12 Conference and the NCAA.
This position is subject to long hours, nights, weekends, on-call and holidays as needed.
Minimum Requirements • Three years of experience with facility maintenance and/or event set up. • Two years of combined experience in any of the following trade disciplines: carpentry, electrical, mechanical, painting or plumbing. • Six months of experience leading or supervising employees • Valid driver’s license required. It is required to have a valid Oregon’s Driver’s License within 90 days of employment, and to successfully receive a University of Oregon’s Drivers Certification card. It is required that this license be maintained throughout employment with the Athletic Department.
Professional Competencies • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to interpret and communicate to others a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and schedule form. • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals. • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. • Ability to speak effectively to customers and members of the organization. • Experience with safety programs and practices. • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. climb large amount of stairs, and work on their feet for long periods of time. • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications • Five years of experience with facility maintenance and/or event set up. • Forklift, Scissorlift, Boom lift certification and/or experience. • Experience supervising employees, writing schedules, directing work, evaluating work in the field and on paper, disciplining employees when necessary, and executing payroll. • Experience in executing events in a support role or leadership role.
