Position Summary: This senior-level position will report to the Deputy Athletics Director and Chief Athletics Officer. The Assistant AD/Associate AD of Athletics Communications will guide and set the strategy for planning, development and implementation of all communications, website, social media and public relations messages from the athletic department both external and internal. Directs the efforts of the sports information staff and coordinates similar staffs at the University level. The Assistant AD/Associate AD of Athletics Communications will work closely with a senior peer group with the department as the communications partner on a variety of strategic initiatives. In addition, this position works with the ticketing and marketing staffs to help with strategies and communications for ticket sales.
Description of Essential Job Duties:
Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, the athletic department website, social media, newsletters, television shows and internet and television game production.
Coordinate webpage maintenance and ensure new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly.
Responsible for overseeing the editorial direction, design, production and distribution of the athletic department’s publications, both print and electronic.
Coordinate the appearance of all athletic department print and electronic materials such as letterhead, use of logo, brochures, etc.
Makes decisions relative to the selection, promotion, utilization, retention and compensation of the Communications staff.
Makes presentations to both University staff and in the community to promote teams and programs of Jacksonville University.
Provides strong, effective and highly visible leadership to the Communications team in order to capitalize on the full potential of those teams.
Provides outstanding internal and external customer service.
Ensures that all employees are stimulated, motivated and guided to contribute fully to athletic department success. Empowers employees to identify innovative approaches to enhance organizational performance.
Develops and implements communications and media strategies that successfully deliver information and key messages to the public.
Oversees development of strategies that effectively markets the athletic department and educates the public in terms of issues and maximizes the University’s efforts at same.
Develops and maintains a strong and productive relationship with both print and electronic media.
Manages the use of external resources as they pertain to the marketing and communications function (e.g. advertising agency, printers, etc.)
Attends key events for all sports
Performs other duties as assigned.

Manual dexterity is required for operation of vehicles and tools.
Good vision sufficient for the reading written communication and computer display screens.
Good hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
Prerequisites Required for Position:
1. Minimum Work Experience:
2-3 years in public relations or advertising
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations required;
2. Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to successfully balance and manage multiple tasks in an active, fast-paced environment;
Demonstrated record of excellence in oral and written communications, computer proficiencies, and leadership / management skills.
