The Assistant Coach, Women’s Soccer provides assistance to the head coach with the organization, development, and implementation of a nationally competitive, NCAA Division I women’s soccer program. Responsibilities will include assisting with scouting, recruiting, coaching, practice and game scheduling, and the administration of team budgets. Develops and maintains effective interaction with students, colleagues, university staff, alumni, media, and the general public.
Essential Job Duties
Provides assistance to the Head Coach with activities associated with the program and student athletes to include recruitment.
Works collaboratively with the Head Coach, Women’s Soccer and Associate Athletic Director to develop programs and associated policies, rules and procedures regarding, recruitment, academic, and financial aid eligibility, and retention of intercollegiate student-athletes as related to the assigned sport.
Serves as a role model to assist the team members in developing and displaying appropriate behavior and sportsmanship expected of athletic teams and individuals representing FGCU.
Plans long and short term team objectives under the leadership of the head coach.
Monitors academic performance and social development of student athletes. Assists with establishing requirements for academic and athletic progress.
Collaborates with athletic staff to foster partnerships between women’s soccer and local and campus communities.
Assists in the recruitment of student athletes. Attends off campus games for the purpose of evaluation and contact. Coordinates mailing of recruitment materials, maintains contact with prospective student athletes, and plans campus visits with prospective student athletes and their parents.
Prepares, plans, conducts, and evaluates practice sessions, as directed.
Teaches individual and groups on player specific tasks and skills before, during, and after practice, during season and off-season.
Observes athletes during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
Coordinates arrangements for team travel. Schedules practice times for the road.
Transports prospects and student athletes to events, practice and competitions as necessary.
Supervises and assigns responsibilities to the team managers and graduate assistants.
Maintains equipment inventory and oversees distribution to athletes.
Follows FGCU procedures in handling all supply orders and any funds that flow through the athletic program.
Coordinates all enrollment activities of student athletes.
Complies with all University, Atlantic Sun Conference, or Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) regulations, as well as all NCAA rules and regulations. Remains current with all changes in NCAA, as well as changes to University, Atlantic Sun Conference and CCSA rules and regulations regarding intercollegiate athletics. This includes the requirement for self-reporting any possible rule violations and participation in the annual NCAA continuing education programs including passing the NCAA certification test. Any violation of NCAA rules is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
Represents the university at various business and civic group meetings or other speaking engagements regarding the women’s soccer program.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
Two years of coaching experience at the college level or above.
Successful experience as a graduate assistant or intern in an athletic program is acceptable for up to one year of the required experience.
Current CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain within two months of employment.
Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel throughout the country.
Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
NCAA Division I collegiate coaching experience.
Demonstrated commitment to rules/policy compliance, as well as, demonstrated commitment to student-athlete success both academically and athletically.
