University of Washington Intercollegiate Athletics seeks a Director of Facility Operations. This position reports to the Assistant Athletic Director for Event and Facility Operations, and is responsible for the operation and supervision of the maintenance program supporting ICA facilities, including management, maintenance, enhancements, and budgetary resources. The Director will lead and maintain an organizational culture that emphasizes our core values and fosters an inclusive, collaborative, innovative, and nimble environment.
Supervise maintenance, grounds and custodial operations for ICA Facilities. Manage maintenance and labor contracts. Manage delivery of maintenance services provided to ICA by UW Facilities Services and outside vendors. Assist as necessary with the maintenance and operations of Husky Stadium.
Develop and manage the ICA Facilities maintenance budget of approximately $1.2 million, including participation in capital improvement planning and project development. Ensure that budget goals are met. Approve all expenditures for facilities maintenance.
Directly supervise gardener leads, maintenance mechanics, utility worker supervisors and utility leads. Supervise and assist with the work of hourly and contract labor staff. Maintain compliance with collective bargaining agreements for staffing practices, policies, and procedures. Oversee HR processes for full-time and part-time facilities staff. Manage security roles in the Workday HR/Payroll system related to this position.
Develop and manage preventive maintenance plans for facilities and grounds. Create and update facility operations manuals. Monitor the ICA maintenance request email and respond to staff as necessary. Respond to emergencies and initiate needed repairs to facilities and grounds. Establish quality assurance measures for program activities. Establish safety procedures and standards for ICA staff and facilities. Establish and maintain reports and documentation for program activities and present regular reports to ICA leadership.
This position is designated as one that performs an “essential function”. This position’s incumbent must continue to report to work in the event that the University suspends operations because of severe weather, natural disaster, or other emergency conditions.
Develop and manage operational plans for sporting events and special events within the athletic facilities. Supervise and execute the facility set-up and clean-up of Husky Stadium for football games, commencements, and other events. Assist in planning and directing the operational activities, event set-ups, and change-overs in all facilities.
A bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience in facility operations and maintenance, or equivalent experience. Management and/or experience in performing maintenance and repair tasks within facilities and grounds. Strong knowledge of facility and grounds operations. Strong oral and written communications skills. Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Experience in performing maintenance and repair tasks of athletic equipment and athletic competition surfaces. Familiarity with Division I intercollegiate athletics or other sports environment. Knowledge of NCAA, Pac-12, and Washington state rules and regulations. Ability to develop and deliver training or assessment programs. Experience utilizing Microsoft Office computerized maintenance management systems, or housing information management systems. Experience with budget, payroll, and purchasing software systems.
